How to Network

Updated: Apr 23, 2019

By now we've established that without your network, there is no progression. It is everything in business expansion.

I've come up with 7 steps to making sure you can successfully utilise your network.

1. Set Networking Goals:

This can be daily, weekly or even monthly. Networking isn't always face to face, it can even be a phone call, or conference/ skype call, etc.

2. Invest time:

It is crucial to invest time to network after setting a goal. Setting time aside holds you accountable for your goals.

3. Plan who you meet:

It is important to mix up who you connect with as well as planning who you need to meet before hand, on a regular basis. It helps to keep your network fresh.

4. Reason:

When you need specific information, it is always useful to have a reason as to why you need to network. However, it can be just as useful just to catch up with someone and learn what the person does, their new roles, new experiences. It doesn't always have to revolve around a product or service.

5. Events:

Looking for interesting new networking events is really useful as well, like a night out with sales peers. Sales ambassadors also provide many workshops and more tailored events for networking purposes that have proved to create results and long term successes.

6. Add Value:

Your aim should be to build an "empire of contribution". To develop meaningful and authentic relationships you must make sure your aim is not only to take information and hoard it, you must be willing to share information too. Support your own success by creating ways for others to be successful too; you never know how individuals you helped will contribute in your life -- personally or professionally.

7. Reciprocate:

The most successful networking relationships, is one where you can refer to your contacts and they can do the same back on a regular basis.
